Assembly ousts long-range planning chairman

SITKA, ALASKA With little discussion, the Sitka assembly last night (Tue 2-26-08) removed Jim “Steff” Steffen from the Long Range Planning Commission.
The move marked the second ouster of a high profile commission chair in the last year. Planning & Zoning chair Pat Hughes was replaced last April.

Youth activists march for respectful, non-violent relationships

Sitka was one of 170 communities that took to the streets today for the Choose Respect March, a statewide effort to end domestic violence and sexual assault. In a 2012 victimization survey conducted in Sitka, 47% of adult women reported experiencing intimate partner violence, sexual violence, or both. more
