Mark Begich speaks to Sitkans before declaring his candidacy

SITKA, ALASKA Anchorage mayor Mark Begich stopped in Sitka earlier this month, on a pre-campaign circuit that took him around the state. He spoke before the Sitka Chamber of Commerce about his potential run for U.S. Senate, including his unorthodox “Senate Exploratory Committee”. He has since declared his candidacy.

Daniels pushes students to bring jazz to life

The Dee Daniels Vocal Jazz Workshop is underway this week in Sitka (July 18-25). For the last two years, Daniels has interrupted her touring and teaching schedule to live at the Sitka Fine Arts Camp, and coach a half-dozen students of widely-ranging ages and ability. KCAW’s Robert Woolsey recently stopped by her class and learned how much work it takes to make jazz seem effortless. more
