House candidates outline views in Petersburg

SITKA, ALASKA The declared candidates for the House District 2 seat currently held by Peggy Wilson met for the first time together in an on-air forum last week in Petersburg.
The forum, hosted by public radio station KFSK, was part of the community’s Little Norway Festival.
Robert Woolsey prepared this look at some of the issues the candidates addressed during the program.

Hughes-Knowles became interested in running for mayor when he saw an ad in the Daily Sitka Sentinel soliciting candidates for municipal office. in fact, the level of political apathy shocked him. Hughes-Knowles says people like state representative Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins and assembly member Matt Hunter have helped revive his generation’s attention to local politics. But more are needed. more
