State passes on Takatz hydro — for now

SITKA, ALASKA A feasibility study for major new hydroelectric project in Sitka has been put on hold.
The Alaska Energy Authority has denied the city’s request for $2-million dollars to study the prospects for hydro power at Takatz Lake, on the east side of Baranof Island.

Artesian well cleaned to improve flows; will be open tomorrow

The Forest Service temporarily closed the artesian well for system inspection last Wednesday (1-21-15). District Ranger Perry Edwards says the water was always safe to drink. The problem was that it was coming out too slowly. more
