Local runner wins mountain trail race

SITKA, ALASKA The results of this weekend’s Alpine Adventure Race in Sitka are in and a local runner has captured first place. 20-year-old Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins completed the 7-mile mountain race in 1 hour, 10 minutes and 54 seconds. He did not set a time record for the run, but Kreiss-Tomkins is the youngest person to win the men’s division.

‘DUCKumentary’ kicks off park’s environmental film series

Sitka National Historical Park ranger Ryan Carpenter, the Sitka Conservation Society's Mary Wood, and the Sitka Sound Science Center's Ashley Bolwerk are collaborating on a winter film series at the park. The first screening, DUCKumentary, is tonight (7 PM Wed Jan 28 and 2 PM Sat Jan 31, SNHP theater, free admission).
