SITKA, ALASKA

Lind taught wood carving and painting to the students at the Fine Arts Camp but uses several different mediums for his own artwork. He’s originally from Chignik, located 250 miles west of Kodiak Island. He was born and raised commercial fishing and then joined the Army National Guard before studying Aleut/Alutiiq culture and art. Lind’s culture and environment steer his inspiration as an artist.

Lind says one of the perks of his profession is being his own boss but says that has a downside when you’re doing what you love. He usually sleeps around 4 hours a night…or less when he’s working under a deadline.

Lind left Sitka last week but says he enjoyed his time in Sitka teaching at the Fine Arts Camp and demonstrating at the Sheldon Jackson Museum and hopes to return next year.
