Sitka DDF team, performers take state titles in… everything!

Sitka High DDF coaches Stacey Woolsey and Stefanie Ask discuss their team’s success at the state Drama, Debate, and Forensics tournament in Anchorage over the weekend. Sitka won the 3A team titles in each category (Drama, Debate, and Forensics), the overall team title, and nine individual championships. Sitka High senior Zephyr Feryok was named “Student of the Year” and awarded a $500 scholarship.

Youth activists march for respectful, non-violent relationships

Sitka was one of 170 communities that took to the streets today for the Choose Respect March, a statewide effort to end domestic violence and sexual assault. In a 2012 victimization survey conducted in Sitka, 47% of adult women reported experiencing intimate partner violence, sexual violence, or both. more
