Juneau storyteller Ishmael Hope says his new “Strong Man” comic book is not a break with the rich tradition of his elders; rather, it’s a modern adaptation of an already-powerful narrative style. Hope is a 2000 graduate of Juneau-Douglas High School, with extended family in Sitka. He says his collaboration with Athabascan illustrator Dimi Marcheras explores some of the trials modern youth through a Tlingit superhero. Hope appears in Sitka with the Alaska Spirit of Reading Program and the Alaska Association of School Librarians. He’ll give a presentation for the public at 4:30 this afternoon (Wed Mar 7, 2012) at Kettleson Library.
