The Japanese fishing vessel Ryou-Un Maru lists after being riddled by 25mm explosive rounds fired by the USCG Cutter Anacapa Thursday afternoon (4-5-12). The Anacapa also conducted a fire drill on the burning vessel, before sinking it in 6,000 feet of water. The Ryou-Un Maru went adrift in March of last year following the earthquake and tsunami in northeastern Japan. It met its end about 170 miles southwest of Sitka. The Coast Guard says the decision to sink the hulk was made to protect shipping.
