Three Baranof Barracuda swimmers made waves March 30-31 at Northwest Age Group Sectionals in Federal Way, WA. Skylar Moore, Jessica Davis and Moses Alley represented Sitka among other swimmers from Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Colorado, Idaho, Hawaii, Alaska, Utah, Wyoming and New Mexico.
Northwest Age Groups is the highest level of swimming for age group swimmers in the western zone, and with almost 1300 swimmers competing the three Sitka swimmers did very well. Skylar Moore competed in six events and recorded 100% lifetime best times at the meet. In the 50 and 100 Breaststroke she was seeded very well and from prelims to finals did even better. With a 3rd Place finish in the 50 breast, Skylar just out touched her rivals with a time of 34.45. Skylar’s 100 breast time places her in the Top 100 times of the year nationally.
Moses Alley swam in 4 events over the weekend, with his 50 fly being his highlight, recording a lifetime best time at 31.87. Moses also placed 11th in his 50 Backstroke.
Jessica Davis brought home the most medals from the weekend with finals swims in the 50 Fly (5th place), 100 Free (8th place) and the 100 Individual Medley (7th Place). While Jessica’s best seeded event the 100 Fly ended with her goggles falling off, she was able to shake that off and finish out the meet on Sunday with a great last swim in the 100 IM. Saturday Jessica also recorded a personal best in the 100 Free and breaking the 1 minute mark for a 59:67.
“Overall the kids did really well”, said Coach Kevin Knox. “Jessica was very excited to break the 1 double O in her Free, Moses is improving his fly and backstroke races and Skylar fought hard for her breaststroke races and improved every time she hit the water. We had a really fun weekend!”
