Skyler McIntyre learns a lesson about a grandparent’s love in his essay “Grandparents and Swings.”

Students in Rebecca Himschoot’s fifth-grade class wrote “This I Believe” essays over the winter. The assignment was based on NPR’s well-known series of the same name by producer Jay Allison.

A “This I Believe” essay is not an opinion piece; it is a statement about a personal transformation unique to the author.

Aufrichtig: Blurring the lines between music, poetry, theater

Richard Aufrichtig is a multi-disciplinary artist living in Brooklyn, NY. He traces his musical roots to traditional American songwriting, with a modern instrumental sensibility. While he's produced several albums, including the soon-to-be-released Ocean Music, he's also a published poet and playwright. Aufrichtig is on of six Fellows in Sitka for seven weeks. more
