Don't worry: These swooning teens are actors. (SFAC photo/Berett Wilber)

After about as much time (two weeks) as it might take to hold auditions and cast a traditional student musical, the Sitka Fine Arts Camp will bring a complete show to the stage. Bye Bye Birdie opens this Friday (7-27-12) evening in the Sitka Performing Arts Center with full cast, orchestra, and sets. The show is loosely-based on Elvis Presley’s enlistment in the military. Camp counselor and photographer Berett Wilber captured this image in a recent rehearsal. Wilber apparently was unmoved by Birdie’s Elvis-like gyrations. She writes: “Conrad Birdie slays the population of Sweet Apple, Ohio with the strength of his….er, singing.”

Performances 7 PM Fri Jul 27, 2 PM & 7 PM Sat Jul 28. Tickets $20 at Old Harbor Books.

Listen to the directors and cast on KCAW’s Morning Interview.
