Sitka Re-use Center aims to benefit affordable housing

Greg Reynolds tells KCAW’s Holly Keen about the Sitka Re-use Center. Construction materials can be donated or purchased at the center, with the proceeds benefiting the nonprofit Sitka Community Development Corp. The organization is attempting to expand affordable housing options in Sitka.

Nomination close Friday for BP Teachers of Excellence

Tara Stevens, Associate Director for Government & Public Affairs with BP, discusses the company's teacher recognition program, BP Teachers of Excellence. Nominations are open through Friday, Januar 30. Nomination forms can be found online here. There have been two recent Sitka winners, Christy Anderson (2014) and Michael Mahoney (2012), both from Mt. Edgecumbe High School. Stevens is hoping to see more nominations from Sitka this year. Thirty-three teachers will be recognized in the 20th anniversary year of the program. New Sealaska logging sites near earlier cuts

Sealaska says it will begin logging its new lands later this year. The first parcels cut will be on Prince of Wales Island and the Cleveland Peninsula. more
