Got resiliency? Pacific High asks Sitkans to challenge meth

Paulette James, from Pacific High School, describes a community engagement class where students learn about the resources available to help people resist or recover from meth. A Got Resiliency event is planned for Saturday, May 4, 7-9 PM at Crescent Harbor shelter featuring the Gaja Heen Dancers, a film screening, Silver Jackson, and other local performers.

Nomination close Friday for BP Teachers of Excellence

Tara Stevens, Associate Director for Government & Public Affairs with BP, discusses the company's teacher recognition program, BP Teachers of Excellence. Nominations are open through Friday, Januar 30. Nomination forms can be found online here. There have been two recent Sitka winners, Christy Anderson (2014) and Michael Mahoney (2012), both from Mt. Edgecumbe High School. Stevens is hoping to see more nominations from Sitka this year. Thirty-three teachers will be recognized in the 20th anniversary year of the program. Downloadable audio. more

New Sealaska logging sites near earlier cuts

Sealaska says it will begin logging its new lands later this year. The first parcels cut will be on Prince of Wales Island and the Cleveland Peninsula. more
