Librarian Sarah Bell outlines plans for crepe and pancake feed at the library in celebration of National Library Week (10 AM Sat 4-20-13). Patrons will brainstorm “Anythink” ideas, and a major donor toward library expansion will be announced.

Seretan: Fellows program pushes young talent into a new context

Singer/songwriter Ben Seretan coordinates the Island Institute's Sitka Fellows Program, which provides studio space, meals, and time for artists/scholars under 30. He was a Fellow himself last year, and he'll release a dual LP album (and cassette tape) of his Sitka-influenced work this October 28. Ballot Measure 1 may be failing statewide, but in Sitka and the rest of central Southeast Alaska, it was a clear winner on Tuesday. Seventy-five percent of Sitka voters backed the measure, with 1315 “yes” votes to just 448 “no” votes. more
