Collaboration ‘makes things happen’ at camp

Javier Barboza teaches animation at the Sitka Fine Arts Camp; Ed Littlefield teaches percussion. They discuss the role of collaboration during the short, intense high school session at camp. The two are performing this week during faculty “Art Shares” at camp (7PM thru Wed Jul 10, Odess Theater, Allen Hall). Map: ADF&G reports increase in herring spawn this week

The herring spawn is in full swing in Sitka Sound. According to Alaska Department Fish and Game Biologist Dave Gordon, 29 nautical miles of active spawn were recorded today (Wed 4-1-15) and 32 miles on Tuesday. Gordon said that Sitka Sound is likely at the peak of it’s spawn volume, with a possible secondary spawn expected around mid-April. more

Oil spill origin unknown; Wortman says prompt reporting is key

A large, smelly fuel spill in Crescent Harbor caught the attention of passersby yesterday evening. But the Coast Guard Marine Safety Detachment, which is responsible for investigating fuel spills, have not been able to determine it’s origins. more
