Sitka Police Chief Sheldon Schmitt and Elisabeth Schafer, a paralegal with the District Attorney’s office, discuss the meaning of the flags on Sitka’s courthouse lawn this week. October is Domestic Violence Awareness month. Both Schmitt and Schafer are on Sitka’s Domestic Violence Task Force.

Allen Pope is a visiting glaciologist from Boulder, Colorado. He the Scientist-in-Residency Fellow at the Sitka Sound Science Center for the month of February. He'll be giving two public programs on glaciers: A Science Cafe, 5:30 PM Thu Feb 18 at the Sitka Sound Science Center, and a Natural History Seminar, 7:30 PM Thu Feb 25 at the University of Alaska Southeast, Sitka Campus.
