The Sitka Sound Slayers are holding a meet and greet 6:30 PM Thu Oct 10 at the Baranof Island Brewing Company to recruit new skaters for Sitka’s Roller Derby. The group has grown from 3 to 23 in just a year, and is looking for more. Any woman, regardless of athletic ability, is welcome to participate.

Rob Harcourt is a professor of Marine Ecology at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. He's in Sitka as a Scientist in Residency Fellow (SIRF) at the Sitka Sound Science Center. Harcourt uses advanced tagging techniques to study ocean animals and their habitat -- everything from jellyfish to blue whales.
