The water line broke, but the dam didn’t.
Many Sitkans got a test dam-failure notice on their phones this (Thursday) morning.
Sitka police say it was just a test of their emergency notification system. There was no failure at the Blue Lake Dam.
But they know people were paying attention, after Wednesday afternoon’s water-main break.
And, if you missed it, the water system is close to being back to normal.
A species of fern common in Asia has been found in Southeast Alaska. But unlike invasive species, Wright’s filmy fern is an early colonizer. And figuring out how and when it got here is the next piece of the puzzle. more
