Dam-failure call was just a test

The water line broke, but the dam didn’t.

Many Sitkans got a test dam-failure notice on their phones this (Thursday) morning.

Sitka police say it was just a test of their emergency notification system. There was no failure at the Blue Lake Dam.

But they know people were paying attention, after Wednesday afternoon’s water-main break.

And, if you missed it, the water system is close to being back to normal.
