Tuesday, October 7 is Municipal Election Day in Sitka. Voters will be choosing a mayor, two assembly members and two school board members. We’ve gathered links to all of our coverage below, including full candidate profiles, candidate statements, and audio from our three live, on-air forums.

Raven News will cover the election returns live from Harrigan Centennial Hall, starting at 8 p.m.

Where do I vote?

All Sitka voters will cast their ballots at Harrigan Centennial Hall. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. For more information, contact the Municipal Clerk at (907) 747-1811 or visit the city’s Election Information page.

Who’s on the ballot?

There are two candidates for mayor, five candidates for two open seats on the Sitka Assembly, and two candidates for two seats on the School Board.

Incumbent Mayor Mim McConnell is running for a second two-year term. She was first elected mayor in 2012, after serving three years on the Sitka Assembly. She faces one challenger, 26-year-old political newcomer Orion Hughes-Knowles.

Sitka Assembly

There will be two open seats on the Sitka Assembly, left by members Mike Reif and Pete Esquiro. Both are at the end of their three-year terms and have decided not to run again.

Five candidates are running for those two seats: Thor Christianson, Steven Eisenbeisz, Lillian Feldpausch, Tristan Guevin, and Aaron Wamsley. But voters will see seven names on the ballot. Richard Parmelee and Dennie Daniels both withdrew from the race after the deadline for printing ballots.

Sitka School Board

As for the school board, two veteran candidates are running for two open seats. Incumbent Tim Fulton is running for a third three-year term. The second candidate, Tom Conley, served on the board for 13 years, from 1999 to 2012.
