UPDATE 5:00 PM, 4-28-16

The city has finished repairing a 12″ water main that was leaking on Halibut Point Road and turned the water back on.

Per the recommendation of the Department of Environment Conservation, Sitkans who live between the 4000-block and 5300-block of Halibut Point Road are strongly advised to continue boiling their drinking water until further notice.

UPDATE 5:00 PM, 4-27-16

The city will begin repairs on a 12″ water main that is leaking on Halibut Point Road on Thursday, April 28th and shut off water at 10 a.m. This will affect residents starting at the 4100 block Halibut Point Road and out to the ferry terminal.

In light of the repair work, Sitkans who live between the 4000-block and 5300-block of Halibut Point Road are strongly advised to boil drinking water, beginning at 10 a.m.,until further notice.

Alaska’s Department of Environmental Conservation says repairs to the water system in this area increase the risk of contamination. Once repairs are complete and the system tested, which is estimated to be at 5 p.m. on Thursday, the boil notice will be lifted.
