Sitka’s local hospital is in trouble. Deep financial losses that have only just become apparent have shaken the institution, and have cost the chief financial officer his job. Sitka Community Hospital will ask the Sitka assembly for a $1-million loan this week, but city officials are not calling the emergency infusion of cash a fix.
The city-owned Sitka Community Hospital is in worse financial shape than anyone thought — including its new CEO. The Sitka Assembly was briefed on the hospital’s finances during a closed-door session Tuesday night.
In an otherwise gloomy budget year for the City of Sitka, the community hospital is holding its own. Hospital chief financial officer Lee Bennett had some of the happier news of the budget season. He shared it with the assembly during its third-and-final budget work session last night (5-10-12).
