The recount was requested by candidate John Stein right before Thursday night’s meeting to certify the results of the race between him and Cheryl Westover. Westover is ahead right now by 3 votes.

On election night, Stein was 60 votes behind. After the absentee ballots were opened and tallied on Monday, the margin narrowed to 1 vote. A recount initiated by Municipal Clerk Colleen Ingman put Westover up by 3.

Then, nature intervened. Bad weather on Tuesday delayed mail planes that could have been carrying more absentee ballots, so the Assembly postponed certifying the results of the mayoral race for two days.

Stein requested the recount on Thursday. It’s scheduled for 9 a.m. on Tuesday.

The results of that recount are scheduled to be certified during the next regular meeting of the Assembly, on Oct. 26.
