The 2011 Sacred Harp Convention in Sitka, Alaska. Saturday’s (10-22-11) events included an all-day sing at The Loft. About a dozen Sacred Harp enthusiasts from around the US joined locals for the event. Dr. Tom Malone, from the University of Massachusettes, led the Song School. Sacred Harp is an acapella vocal tradition dating to 18th century American church music. Sopranos, altos, tenors, and bass each take a side of a square. Altos always face the door, to better gossip about late arrivals!
