STE to roll out new trolleys next summer

Visitors to Sitka will have another way to get around beginning next summer. Sitka Tribal Enterprises plans to roll out two trolley-style buses. Camille Ferguson, the economic development director for STE, told the Sitka Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday (10-19-11).

2 jailed after child hospitalized

Two children were removed from a home in the 1600 block of Sawmill Creek Road on Saturday. One of the children, a 3-year-old boy, was taken to the critical care unit at SEARHC Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital.

Alaska Day

Alaska Day commemorates the Russian transfer of Alaska to the United States in 1867. It's a state holiday in Alaska, but by far the biggest celebrations take place in Sitka, where the transfer took place.

Difficult customer

A black bear cub wandered into Tatsuda's grocery store in Ketchikan on Saturday evening (10-15-11). After spending some time sifting through the store’s produce section, the cub was removed by a store patron.
