SEARHC marks day for suicide survivors

The Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium, or SEARHC, is holding events tomorrow at 9 a.m., to line up with other events occurring simultaneously around the globe.

Tribe hears election protest, ratifies results

Tribal citizen Betty Jo Moore told the Tribal Council she had a variety of concerns about the election, including the list of eligible voters, which she believes to be inaccurate. But she was concerned specifically about three people who had to vote questioned ballots during the Tribe’s Nov. 8 election.

Human remains found beneath Cable House

The remains were found in between two slabs of bedrock, and are believed to be very old. KCAW General Manager Ken Fate says when the discovery was made, work was stopped immediately.

Career or “calling”? Troller Dan Falvey named 2011 Highliner of the Year

National Fisherman will honor two Alaskans at the Pacific Marine Expo in Seattle this weekend (Nov 17-19 2011). Bill Webber, Jr., of Cordova, and Dan Falvey of Sitka will join San Francisco’s Larry Collins as the magazine’s 2011 “Highliners of the Year.” The honor is not necessarily about amount of fish anyone lands. Instead, the magazine’s editors describe the trio as “bona fide innovators and men of action, each in his own way.”

Three-day wonders

More than twenty volunteers joined NPS trail crews from Skagway and Sitka to build the park's new "River View" trail over three days last weekend (Nov 11-13, 2011). The trail runs between the park's footbridge and Sawmill Creek Road on land acquired from the former Sheldon Jackson College.
