“Lion”: Seeing ourselves through Henry II and Eleanor

Undefeated Sitka High Mock Trial to compete at nationals

Sitka High’s Mock Trial team will represent Alaska at the national tournament later this spring. The Sitka squad went undefeated in the state meet held at the Anchorage courthouse February 1 – 3. The team took second in state last year, with legal guidance from the late Bruce Horton, Sitka’s long-time magistrate. This year, the team relied on local public defender Jude Pate for advice, and conducted a full practice trial under Sitka Superior Court Judge David George.

KCAW news canvassed Jamestown Bay residents Monday morning (3-12-12) hoping to speak to someone who could corroborate this weekend's police report of "12 orange UFOs." Most neighbors saw nothing; one individual claimed the aliens were in his house, waiting to pick up Sarah Palin and return her to the home planet; and one resident produced this incontrovertible photographic proof of Sitka's close encounter.

Salmon grant will improve hatchery’s historic water supply

The hatchery program at the Sitka Sound Science Center is getting a helping hand from the Pacific Salmon Commission. The center has been awarded $130,000 in grant funding to improve the hatchery’s water intake system, which was originally built in the 19th century to float logs to the sawmill at the Sheldon Jackson Training School.
