Troll’s “Musical Science Hour” mixes fun, old bones

Ketchikan artist and musician Ray Troll is a Guggenheim Fellow. His new book will be called "Cruising the Eternal Coastline." Troll will be performing with Sitka musicians under the name "The Ratfish Wranglers" 7 PM tonight (Fri 3-9-12) at the Sheet'ka Kwaán Naa Kahídi, talking about palenontology and ichthyology, and discussing his fishy art. It's reportedly "more fun than a bucket of eels."

School board hears parent concerns over notification of alleged school bus sexual assault; approves resolution supporting the statewide teaching of Native languages. The school board will meet again tonight (3-8-12) in a worksession to discuss possible budget cuts. Mayor recuses fellow assembly member from school funding deliberations, on grounds of bias. Sitka Republicans prefer Santorum for president.

Sitka school board addresses alleged bus assault

The board asked Supt. Steve Bradshaw to make sure bus drivers are clear that they need to keep older and younger students separated. They also asked building principals to check buses when they arrive to ensure that the separation is happening.

A Yakutat-area lodge-owner has lost a battle over salmon allocations, after it appeared that he had won. It’s just one of the conflicts between user groups that came before Alaska’s Board of Fisheries last week in Ketchikan.
