Sitka wrestlers place at national girls’ tourney

Mt. Edgecumbe wrestling coach Mike Kimber helped three athletes at national competitions this spring. Sydnee Kimber (6th grade, Blatchley) took third in 120 lbs, and Deirdre Creed (Soph, MEHS) took 9th at 108 lbs in the US Girls Wrestling Association tourney in Ypsilanti, MI. Sitka High junior Darin Davis went 3-2 at 109 lbs in the boys tournament in Virginia Beach.

Sitka voting precincts could merge, move

Under the plan, Sitkans would vote at two precincts, both of which would be located at Centennial Hall. Right now, voters head to four locations throughout town to cast their ballots. The change would begin with the statewide primary in August.

The second part of Sitka’s two-part community discussion on the economy is scheduled for Tuesday, April 17, in the main auditorium of Harrigan Centennial Hall, beginning at 1:30 in the afternoon. And while the topic is the same as last week’s economic summit, the approach is different: to collaborate, and build support for new ideas.

Garry White, the director of the Sitka Economic Development Association, discusses his plans for a community-wide economic forum tomorrow (Tuesday 4-17-12) from 1:30 to 5 PM in Harrigan Centennial Hall. White says it's very important to draw new money into Sitka's economy. He'll be looking for "champions" to move ideas forward.
