Aitken joins five applicants for assembly appointment

A sixth applicant has filed for appointment to the assembly seat vacated by Terry Blake last month. Sherry Aitken, the operations manager for Tribal Tours, submitted her paperwork to the municipal clerk late last week. Aitken says she had been thinking about applying for the appointment since Blake announced his resignation this spring, but became busy at work and missed the deadline.

Troll opener slow-going in places, despite average harvest

This year’s summer troll opening in Southeast – by most accounts -- got off to a slow start on July first. It was hit-or-miss for many of the over five-hundred permit holders who were allowed their first crack at wild king salmon for the summer, with catch rates varying significantly depending on location. KCAW contributing reporter Diana Saverin rode aboard a troller out of Port Alexander for day one of the opener, and sent this report.

Upside-down parakeet loves Raven – and says so!

Mr. Tino may enjoy hanging out upside down, but at least he's got good taste in radio stations. The talking parakeet lives in the Washington, DC, home of former KCAW program director Marika Partridge, who's spent the past several months preparing for this summer's Raven Radio 30th Anniversary Celebration.
