Seiner’s sinking prompts fishery closure

The F/V Evening Star is in about 300 feet of water. The crew escaped safely after the boat capsized while hauling in a loaded net. An oil sheen from the incident prompted an emergency closure of the local salmon fishery.

Processor’s trawl fish purchase raises Sitka ire

A Sitka-based seafood processor is taking heat from locals after purchasing trawl-caught fish. The company apologized for not giving that viewpoint more consideration. But the CEO also says they had the best interests of their company and the community in mind.
