The new Republican majority in the Alaskan senate has ousted Sitka’s Bert Stedman from his leadership position on the Finance Committee. The eleven members of the new majority named senators Kevin Meyer and Pete Kelly as co-chairs of the powerful Finance Committee – seats formerly occupied by Stedman, and Bethel Democrat Lyman Hoffman.

Pet owners, assembly explore “dog-friendly” option at Kimsham

Sitka’s dogs will have their day after all. The Sitka assembly last night (11-6-12) tabled a controversial ordinance banning dogs from Moller Park and the Kimsham complex, and will likely scrap it altogether. Instead, they plan to bring forward a revised law that leaves dogs – and their owners – in the mix.
