My name is Dale Spencer Williams, your candidate for Sitka Tribe of Alaska chairman. I am a Raven of the Taak Dein Taan’ clan, born and raised in Sitka by my grandparents Jimmy and Flora Williams. My grandfather Jimmy Williams was of the Kiksadi clan. I am a 1968 graduate of Sitka High School. I am very proud of my family.

Burlesque troupe on stage tonight

Leave your kids at home tonight for the first burlesque show performed by Sitka's Ramshackle Cabaret. There will be more than 20 performers, and all proceeds go to Planned Parenthood. It's at Allen Hall on the Sheldon Jackson College campus. Doors open at 7:30pm and the show starts at 9pm.

Candlelight vigil for Lael Grant’s safe return

More than 100 Sitkans held a candlelight vigil at Totem Square at 8pm for the safe return of Lael Grant, a 33-year-old mother of two, who has been missing since October 14. Anyone with information is asked to call Sitka police at 907.747.3245.

The Sitka Wolves captured their second-straight Region V swimming title last weekend in Ketchikan, but – as usual – won’t have much time to rest on their laurels. The team now at the state meet in Anchorage, where they hope to improve on their second-place finish last year.

Urban foresters size up city’s trees

Figuring out how much Sitka's urban forest is worth and how to take care of it is the job of Stephen Nickel, who works in the Community Forestry Program for the state Dept. of Natural Resources. Nickel has spent the past week in Sitka with Parks & Recreation staff and local volunteers preparing an inventory of the city’s trees – the first step toward developing an Urban Forest Management Plan.

Liesil Davenport-Wheeler and Jim Pfeiffenberger are Good Dog. The pair write and perform original music for children about the natural world. They'll be playing tonight (11-01-12) 7 PM at Harrigan Centennial Hall, in conjunction with the opening of the student art show. Tickets 5$ at the door.
