The Sitka assembly likely will hold off on passing any tax increases until it’s seen a draft of the 2013 budget. In discussion at the assembly table on Tuesday night (3-6-12), members informally agreed to give municipal administrator Jim Dinley time to hammer out a budget, before floating any ideas for possible cuts.

Sitka Republicans prefer Santorum

Sitka Republicans bucked statewide trends yesterday (Tue 3-3-12) and put Rick Santorum on top of their presidential preference poll – by a large margin. The former senator from Pennsylvania took 42 votes to Mitt Romney’s 28. Trailing Romney by only one vote was Ron Paul with 27 votes. Newt Gingrich came in fourth with 19 votes.

Rich & Suzi McClear: Community radio “is the future”

Rich McClear was general manager, first of KTOO-FM in Juneau, and then of KCAW-FM Sitka, from before the station's sign on in 1982, until 1993. He and his wife, Suzi, have continued to work abroad developing community radio stations and training journalists in eastern Europe and the Balkans. In a three-part interview with KCAW's Robert Woolsey, the McClears reflect on the circumstances that helped shape Raven Radio, and consider the future of community radio in the age of social media.
