Thirty-eight finalists stood up at Blatchley Middle School's Spelling Bee Wednesday night (1-16-13). And then there was only one: champion Abigail Fitzgibbon. Spellers worked their way to word #169 on the official Scripps National Spelling Bee list before Fitzgibbon won on intuitive. Emma Falvey, Evan Ipok, and Whitney McAuthur were runners-up.

Sitka police responded to a report of a death on Sunday afternoon. The body of 84-year-old Wayne "Pee Wee" Westover was found in his apartment.
