Elections were also held this week in most communities served by KCAW, with the exception of Yakutat, whose voters will go to the polls later this month.

Unofficial election returns from Tenakee Springs show Carlene Allred and Joan McBeen the top vote-getters. They’ll likely be joined on their local council by write-ins Rod Swope and Brennan Morrow.

In Angoon, Harriet Silva won City Council Seat C with 77 votes. Kevin Frank, Sr. took Seat D with 54 votes.

In Kake, Joann Jackson and Falen Mills won three-year terms on the City Council with 87 and 71 votes respectively. Wanita “Bunny” James has won a seat on the school board with 119 votes.

In Pelican, top vote-getters Derek Stewart and former mayor Clint Bean won three-year terms on the City Council, with 30 and 29 votes. Vern Young, with 24 votes, will sit on the Council for one year.

Kenneth Wolff and Charine Johnson will go to the school board, with 33 and 30 votes.

And finally, the community of Port Alexander elects its town council exclusively by write-in vote. The winners this year are Ryan Martin, with 19 votes, followed by Tommy Corso, Bud Durdle, Ryan Mulligan, Glen Smith, and Debra Rose Gifford.

In these communities — as in Sitka — election results remain unofficial until absentee ballots are counted, and the tallies are certified by local government.
