Sitkans took flight down Lincoln Street today (09-17-16)– on wings made of rubber! The 22nd Annual Running of the Boots, a fundraiser for the Sitka Local Foods Network, combines a costume contest with a short road race to mark the end of the visitor’s season.

Evoking the “Running of the Bulls” in Spain, participants race in XtraTuf boots. Registration and a costume contest took place at 10 a.m. beneath a big tent in Totem Square, with the race at 11 a.m. and a free lunch provided by the Chamber of Commerce.

Bugs, princesses, and pirates were aplenty for the kids costume contest. (L to R): Wren Flowers, Cheyenne Mossberg, Elliot Longtin, Liv Speck, Elsa Speck, and Phin Edwards get ready for judging. (Emily Kwong/KCAW photo)
