Bill Foster on his 2,750 mile ride to Cuba in 1959. Bike touring was in its infancy at the time — and so was Cuba’s Marxist Revolution! (Bob Miller photo)

Brian McNitt with the Salty Spoke Bike Co-op and KCAW’s Robert Woolsey describe the backstory behind this Sunday’s Bill Foster Tribute Ride (beginning 11 a.m. Sunday, May 26, at the Salty Spoke behind Raven Radio, and concluding at Harbor Mt. Brewing Co.). The event will feature both a bike ride to Medvejie Hatchery (all or part optional!) followed by a slideshow at the Brewery of Bill’s 1959 bike ride from Hannibal, Missouri, to Havana, Cuba, a few months after Fidel Castro seized power.
