October’s visiting Scientist in Residency Fellow is Dr. Gavin McNicol from the University of Illinois Chicago. He is a biogeochemist whose work focuses on nutrient cycling in wetlands, and his upcoming research will focus on yellow cedar decline in Southeast Alaska. During his time in Sitka, he will engage with high school students as a Scientist in the Schools, exploring Sitka’s biogeochemical systems and cycles. Additionally, he will share his research with the community through a UAS Natural History Seminar and other public events. With Zofia Danielson, research coordinator at the Sitka Sound Science Center.
