It’s official: Koutchak is Sitka’s new attorney

Robin Koutchak's resume has 20 years of Alaska law experience on it, including time in Barrow, where she was assistant municipal attorney, assistant attorney general and assistant district attorney. Currently, she's in private practice in Barrow.

Rates to rise as Blue Lake project moves forward

Sitka’s electric rates are going up effective July 1. The flat 15 percent increase for all customers will put residential energy charges between 9 and 18 cents per kilowatt hour, depending on usage.

Robin Koutchak is currently in private practice in Wasilla. Her resume in Alaska stretches back to 1992. Assembly members decided to offer her the job after a special meeting on Sunday evening.

Vigils planned to mourn 13-year-old girl’s death

The vigils begin at 6 p.m. in most places. In Kake, mourners will gather at the Old Grade School. In Juneau, they’ll gather at Sealaska Plaza. The Sitka event is planned at the Salvation Army, on Sawmill Creek Road near the roundabout.

Troopers: Kake death investigated as homicide

13-year-old Mackenzie H. Howard was found dead Tuesday night in an entryway to the Memorial Presbyterian Church. Anyone with information in the case is encouraged to call Alaska State Troopers at 907-225-5118.

Sitka enlisted man accused in child porn case

The charges against Petty Officer Second Class James Grover include possessing child pornography and making false statements to special agents. On Wednesday, the Coast Guard convened what’s called an Article 32 hearing. It’s similar to a grand jury in civilian court.
