The Department of Environmental Conservation said a response team from SEAPRO left Sitka on Wednesday morning, to deploy a boom around the vessel and clean up oil discharges as they occur.

Audit studies math in Sitka school district

Teachers are doing a good job, students are eager to succeed and parents are invested in what’s going on. But the Sitka School District needs to make sure all three of those groups are on the same page when it comes to math education. That’s the finding of an audit on the way Sitka teaches math.

Star: Fiction writing in Southeast Alaska

Lizzie Star is one of eight Sitka Fellows. Her time in Sitka will be spent writing a draft novel called "Aspersions Everywhere." The book is about a young woman who discovers that her favorite male author (who's grumpy and perhaps a bit misogynistic) is writing romance novels under a female pen name.
