Processor’s trawl fish purchase raises Sitka ire

A Sitka-based seafood processor is taking heat from locals after purchasing trawl-caught fish. The company apologized for not giving that viewpoint more consideration. But the CEO also says they had the best interests of their company and the community in mind.

With four days left before the deadline, three candidates have shown interest in being the next mayor of Sitka. The deadline to get on the Oct. 2 municipal ballot is Friday at 5 p.m.

Sitka will stay course on 2008 citizen lawsuit

The City of Sitka will continue defending a lawsuit brought by two residents in 2008. Jeff Farvour and Mike Litman represent the group Sitkans for Responsible Government. They sued the city four years ago after it twice rejected a citizens’ initiative from the municipal election ballot.

After 2 weeks’ rehearsal, ‘Birdie’ to open Friday

At the high school level, putting on a musical can take anywhere from 8 to 10 weeks. At the Sitka Fine Arts Camp, it takes two. A group of high school-age students are working through the ambitious rehearsal schedule at the camp’s first-ever two-week musical theater session.
