Blue Lake and Green Lake roads open to foot traffic

The city has re-opened Green Lake and Blue Lake roads for public pedestrian access. Blue Lake Road will be open to vehicle traffic after the completion of the campground restoration and installation of an overlook above the Blue Lake Dam.

The power went out across Sitka for nearly two hours today (12-16-16). The cause? A tripped wire, possibly from a bird collision.

UPDATE: Power restored across Sitka

The power went out in downtown Sitka around 12:20 p.m., as well as portions of Sawmill Creek Road and Halibut Point Road. The city’s electric department believes the cause is a tripped line coming into town.
