Two new cases push Sitka’s coronavirus count to 56

Sitka chalked up two more confirmed cases of the coronavirus on Thursday (8-27-20) -- a girl between the ages of 10 and 19, and a man between the ages of 60 and 69. Sitka's total coronavirus count is now at 57.

Some electric utility customers could be without power for several hours today (8-27-20). The Electric department is making improvements to the Marine Street Substation. As a result, Sitkans may experience outages between the hours of 6 a.m. and 12 p.m.

August 25, 2020: What’s on the agenda at tonight’s assembly meeting?

The city of Sitka is moving forward with plans to rehabilitate the Green Lake Power Plant. It is applying for loans to help fund the first phase of the project, but that process is moving more slowly than anticipated. So, when the Sitka Assembly meets tonight (8-25-20), it will consider budgeting an additional $1.3 million toward the project to prevent delays.
