Queen Tribute Show offers Sitkans an ‘escape from reality’

It's finally here! The Queen Tribute Show opens at the Sitka Performing Arts Center, 7:00 pm this Friday and Saturday, September 13 and 14. Rhiannon Guevin, with the Sitka Fine Arts Camp, introduces professional tenor and musical theater artist Sam Faustine, who will perform the role of Freddie Mercury. Local artist Joe Montagna talks about the large local ensemble backing up Faustine.

Oyaguez: Music as a way to know the world

Spanish pianist Alfredo Oyaguez Montero is grateful that his mother made him study piano as a child. He's joining the Sitka Summer Music Festival Fall Classics series as a guest artist. He'll be performing on a 100-year old Steinway at St. Peters-by-the-Sea at 5 p.m. Thursday, September 5.

A grant-funded makeover for two of Sitka’s favorite cabins

Andrew Thoms, director of the Sitka Conservation Society, and photographer Grace Harang discuss recent upgrades to the Fred's Creek and Allan Point recreational cabins. SCS leveraged grant funding from the National Forest Foundation to replace floors and decks, and upgrade stoves, at both cabins.
