Junior scientists prep for Bioblitz

Bioblitz is a 24-hour survey to document every species of flora and fauna in a community. Kitty LaBounty of University of Alaska southeast, Jessica Gill of Sitka Tribe of Alaska's Resource Protection Department and Aaron Prussian of the U.S. Forest Service are taking fourth graders from Keet Goshi Heen elementary School to Starrigavan for a Junior BioBlitz on April 27. New assistant DA serves in stride

Christopher Orman is the new assistant district attorney for Sitka, Petersburg, and Kake. He replaced Jean Seaton in February, who held the position since 2009. Originally from Southern California, Orman had a winding road to get into law, but he says he’s ultimately happy to be serving the community.

Sitka Health Summit holds networking event

Zack Desmond and Tamie Parker Song, members of the Sitka Health Summit, talk about a health networking event. Craig Nolte, from the Federal Reserve Bank, has experience leading community and economic development initiatives throughout the region and will be facilitating the event. He says poor health can have an impact on the workforce. The event is at UAS in Room 106 on April 28. Downloadable audio.
