Outage traced to Green Lake turbine

Most of Sitka lost power for about a half-hour Wednesday afternoon (4-29-15), but the new equipment at the Blue Lake project was not to blame. A gate at the Green Lake No. 2 turbine was the culprit.

Rich was a Raven Radio founder, as well as its first General Manager.  He said his family wanted him to go to law school and he had been accepted, but when he got to the mail box to mail the check, he turned back around and said, “I can’t do this. After 75 years, family keeps Sitka Sentinel running

The Sitka Sentinel celebrated its 75th anniversary last year without much fanfare. As many newspapers in big cities have folded or turned into online only operations, the Sentinel has continued publishing five issues a week. The paper is owned and edited by Thad and Sandy Poulson, journalist who arrived in 1969 and are determined to keep the press running.
