Governor should restore promised school funding

Tim_Fulton_100 My name is Tim Fulton and I am the clerk of the Sitka School Board. The governor has taken out of his proposed budget the one-time funding (HB278) that schools were promised last year.

Officials haven’t been able to trace the source of a minor diesel spill in Thomsen Harbor this weekend. Coast Guard MSD Supervisor Mike Wortman said the discharge quantity was less than a gallon and not recoverable.

For four days this February (Feb. 16 - Feb. 19, 2015), six students from Blatchley Middle School ventured off campus to learn the craft of radio at the KCAW studios. Yesterday (3-3-15), The Blatchley Variety Show aired in tandem with the Mt. Edgecumbe Radio Club. This 20-minute radio program featured a medley of songs, skits, and student produced news. Middle school performers to tackle Shakespearean comedy

On the heels of closing Annie this past weekend (Feb. 27 to Mar. 1, 2015), Zeke Blackwell with the Sitka Fine Arts Camp is already looking forward to the next program. Blankenship: Ocean Wave to auction quilts for scholarships

Annette Blankenship and Megan Pasternak of the Ocean Wave Quilters Guild talk about this year's quilt auction (3-3-15). This annual silent and outcry mini quilt auction supports college scholarships for Sitka students. So far, 20 miniature quilts and 5 large quilt tops are expected to be auctioned. Drones don’t fly at Alaska’s Board of Fish

The Alaska Board of Fisheries closed some waters near Angoon to purse seining in order to improve subsistence harvests, in action over the weekend (3-1-15). They also shot down the use of unmanned aircraft to aid in salmon fishing.
