School safety moves beyond the lockdown

Researchers are developing new strategies to counter shootings at schools and other public places, and they’re not what you might expect. The Sitka School Board at it’s regular meeting this week (1-6-15) heard a presentation on the ALICE program, which represents a radical departure for personal safety in life-threatening situations.

Allen offered interim hospital CEO post

Sitka businessman Rob Allen has been offered the job of interim CEO of Sitka Community Hospital. Allen, who currently lives in Deerfield, Massachusetts, is still considering the offer. He originally applied for the position when it became open last summer, and was the second choice behind Jeff Comer.

State game board to review deer seasons, limits for Sitka

The State Board of Game meets this weekend (Jan 9-13) in Juneau to consider a number of proposed changes to Southeast hunting regulations -- including some rules important to Sitka hunters of deer, mountain goat, and bear.

A ‘season of gratitude’ at the Sitka Summer Music Festival

The Murdock Trust, plus a number of individual funders, contributed a total of $530,000 in capital funding, some of which will be used toward repairs of the historic building.Downloadable audio.
