Sitka has reported nine new cases of the coronavirus since Friday. That’s after Sitka experienced a brief dip in new cases around New Year’s, and the city lowered its alert level.

Over 1200 Sitkans have received the coronavirus vaccine since it arrived in the middle of the night three weeks ago. Local officials stress that vaccines will be available to anyone who wants them at some point, but for now, supplies remain limited. Navigating who does qualify for the vaccine and where to sign up has been a source of confusion for many Sitkans.

Pelican City Treasurer joins state commission to serve as a voice for rural residents

Gov. Mike Dunleavy appointed 51 Alaskans to fill seats on the 137 active state boards and commissions at the end of December. Among those chosen was Pelican City Treasurer Jessica Adams, who has a background in emergency medicine and fire fighting.

Yakutat reports two new coronavirus cases, vaccine arrival

The most recent positive case was reported on Dec. 30. Another positive case was reported in Yakutat on Dec. 24. Yakutat received its first 100 doses of the Moderna vaccine at the end of December and began vaccinating medical workers and first responders.

Two positive coronavirus test results reported in Yakutat earlier this week were actually negative.

Sitka’s emergency responders line up for coronavirus vaccine

Many of Sitka’s frontline health care workers and first responders joined others around the state on Wednesday (11-16-20) when they received doses of the coronavirus vaccine. The first shipment of the Pfizer vaccine arrived in Sitka early Wednesday morning.
